CELCOM COLLABORATES WITH XPERANTI IOT TO ACCELERATE ENTERPRISE ADOPTION OF IOT

PETALING JAYA, 14 JANUARY 2020 – Celcom Axiata Berhad today, announced its collaboration with Xperanti IoT, Malaysia’s first nationwide licensed Internet of Things (IoT) network provider, to leverage the capabilities of Sigfox 0G technology for IoT applications.

The two companies plan to collaborate in a comprehensive exploration to identify proven use cases and commercialise IoT solutions leveraging Sigfox technology with Celcom’s network, further accelerating the adoption of IoT in Malaysia.

Sigfox transmits low bandwidth data and small payloads of information. The technology is adept at tracking and monitoring, particularly non-powered assets such as trailers, containers, livestock or the environment, at a lower cost and energy. The Sigfox low-power wide area network (LPWAN) technology is designed to complement existing high bandwidth protocols, such as 4G & 5G, for innovative and powerful IoT solutions especially in the areas of smart cities, agriculture and transportation.

Azlan Zainal Abidin, Chief Enterprise Business Officer of Celcom Axiata Berhad said that this collaboration signifies Celcom’s full commitment in leading the nation’s drive towards IoT adoption in preparation towards the fourth industrial revolution (IR4.0), further supporting the development of the nation’s digital ecosystem.

As Celcom aims to facilitate and accelerate IoT adoption in the country, our collaboration with Xperanti IoT, allows Celcom to be the nation’s most comprehensive IoT network provider, creating a positive awareness regarding technology advantages, as well as educate enterprises on the complexity of initial investments and management.

Furthermore, as we build our capacity in enabling homegrown IoT solutions across multi-verticals alongside Xperanti, this initiative will also be another avenue for local businesses to identify and implement IoT solutions to significantly enhance their business,” he added.

Given the expected huge numbers of devices that will be deployed in the future (one billion IoT devices connected to the Sigfox global network by 2023), therefore the collaboration with Celcom is essential for us to understand and leverage the performance and maturity of the different types of connectivity solutions for Industrial IoT use cases, for the benefit of the market and nation. We have seen enterprises that adopt Sigfox IoT solutions achieve over 30% reduction in operational cost and up to 10% productivity improvement within two years,” said Xperanti’s Chief Executive Officer, Vicks Kanagasingam.

Xperanti has always championed the growth of local players in the country. We support Malaysian enterprises to adopt practical, scalable and sustainable industrial IoT solutions in order to compete with larger companies, with the aim to fast-track the adoption of Industry 4.0 in the country, and unify the digital divide by implementing both industrial as well as community driven IoT-based solutions,” he added.

Xperanti is the exclusive Sigfox operator in Malaysia. Sigfox is the initiator of the 0G network and the world’s leading IoT service provider with global coverage in 70 countries. The Kuala Lumpur-based company began laying the groundwork for IoT deployment last year and has already achieved 85 percent coverage by population in Malaysia, including Sabah and Sarawak. Xperanti will continue to densify the network to achieve > 95% coverage by 2020 to support the adoption of Industry 4.0 in Malaysia

Sigfox’s unique approach for device-to-cloud communications addresses the three greatest barriers to Industrial IoT adoption: cost, energy consumption, and scalability.

With many more use cases where Celcom and Xperanti’s collaboration can expand into, including areas such as manufacturing, utilities and energy, retail, home and lifestyle, the strategic synergy from this partnership will see them both continuously pushing the boundaries of IoT and innovation for the benefit of enterprises, government agencies and community in Malaysia.
