Securitas Direct plans to gradually increment the typology and number of devices connected to the Sigfox-Cellnex 0G network
The two companies also announced the expansion of their IoT network capacity in Spain and its coverage extension to Portugal
Madrid, 18 July 2019 – Cellnex Telecom and Sigfox Spain will multiply by six the current capacity of their 0G network dedicated to Internet network of Things (IoT), to give it more features, among which are the ability to transmit images, send audio messages and optimize the reception of broadcast messages in motion. They will also extend the coverage to Portugal, becoming the official network operator on the same model as in Spain.
As part of this expansion, the two companies have also renewed and extended their IoT connectivity services contract with Securitas Direct, one of the main users of Sigfox-Cellnex’s 0G network. Securitas expects to leverage this agreement to offer its 1.2 million clients the best and most innovative security services. Securitas Direct will be able to keep its ATN network (Alarm Transmission Network) exclusively, increasing its reach, coverage and capacities to continue developing innovative solutions.
As a result of the agreement and the increased capacity, robustness and resilience of the network, Securitas Direct also plans to expand and diversify the type of devices and services that will be connected to the 0G network in the coming years. The contract between the companies has been signed for a global period of 15 years, with an initial period of 6 years and an extension of 9 additional years.
Albert Cuatrecasas, CEO of Cellnex España, has stated that “The expansion of the capacity of the IoT network with Sigfox and the agreement signed with Securitas Direct are undoubtedly a turning point in the IoT connectivity services that we have been providing since 2015, when we deployed the first Internet-oriented network of Things in Spain with national coverage of 95% of the population.”
“There are currently more than 2 million devices” continues Albert Cuatrecasas, ”Already connected and using daily the IoT network with Sigfox in Spain, providing security services, remote monitoring of electricity consumption, water telemetry, waste management, tracking of materials, smart parking, energy efficiency and risk prevention in homes, among others. Now as we extend this coverage to Portugal, we will have networks with more and better features in both countries, and we will increase the amount of connected objects.”
For its part Cristina Rivas, Securitas Direct Technology Director, has indicated that “With this agreement with Cellnex, one of the best technological partners, we reassure our commitment to IoT networks like Sigfox, as an alternative channel to current networks, which offers us a unique and differential security service to our customers. The main advantage is that we have an additional communication channel and unique anti-inhibition capabilities, critical in our service and not available through traditional operators’ networks.”
From Rebecca Crowe, Sigfox Spain General Manager “This renewal of trust from Securitas is further proof, if necessary, that our 0G network is a reliable alternative service of communication for security devices, but also that massive IoT adoption is upon us. One of our goals at Sigfox is to promote the 0G network as a safety public network that could act, in this specific case, as a back-up channel in case the main communication links fail, or in cases where a network goes down after an incident or malicious act.”
