SIGFOX BECOMES SIEMENS MINDSPHERE GOLD PARTNER

Sigfox provides an additional building block to expand IoT connectivity options for MindSphere customers

Munich/Nuremberg, Germany – 27 November 2018 – Sigfox, the world’s leading IoT connectivity service provider, is now a Siemens MindSphere Gold Partner. As a part of the partner ecosystem for MindSphere – the cloud-based, open IoT operating system from Siemens – Sigfox can now offer customers comprehensive end-to-end services from a joint source.

Paul Kealey, Senior Vice President of MindSphere Partner Ecosystem at Siemens, regards the Sigfox partnership as a significant Low Power Wide Area Network (LPWAN) connectivity component for new, IoT-based business models: “Being able to regularly send small data packets from large and small devices to the cloud and back, in the most efficient and economical way, is a fundamental cornerstone of new IoT business models, alongside broadband connectivity. That is why there are numerous MindSphere projects among our joint industrial customers that use Sigfox, and we want to boost these even more through our cooperation.”

Being a MindSphere Gold partner can help enable Sigfox to advance Sigfox’s projects for MindSphere by further developing its service offering. From the wealth of data sent by Sigfox-based devices, customers will have more opportunities to aggregate business-relevant information from their digital twins faster in order to use it for new service offerings and business models. To this end, intensive work is now being done by Sigfox on optimizing the respective API and device management functions, as well as the training and support offerings for application developers and sales.

Aurelius Wosylus, CSO Sigfox Germany, highlights the many opportunities membership in the partner program provides to customers: “We can easily help to find the right hardware to connect a device to the Sigfox network. The software logic in the application cloud is much more critical. This is why we are convinced that many of our industrial users will find MindSphere a time-to-market accelerator that is industrially robust, safe, and already offering numerous industry-specific functions off-the-shelf.”

Sigfox projects with MindSphere cloud are currently deployed by numerous joint customers in sectors such as energy and water supply, municipal utilities and distribution network operators, transport and logistics, as well as numerous other automation markets. Next to entirely industry-specific functions such as remote meter reading, common application fields across all industries include asset tracking and monitoring as well as predictive maintenance, provided that the up to 140 x 12 bytes of messages per day of the Sigfox network are sufficient. In addition, there are also hybrid solutions where Sigfox provides the necessary message pings to open a broadband Internet channel only in maintenance cases.
