Idea box

Many of you will have already imagined connecting everyday objects to the Internet for an array of different reasons, ranging from comfort to security.

SIGFOX allows you to bridge the gap from idea to realisation. You have an idea, but you don’t know exactly how you are going to make it happen. Write it down here with enough detail so that a member of the community can bring your vision to life.

SIGFOX will reply to your message or put you in contact with chartered integrators, whether you opt, or not, for the sharing or your idea with the whole community (please tick the appropriate box on the form).

 A tweeting plant
Indoor plants often wilt because of excess watering, or contrarily, because of a lack of watering. It would be beneficial to know the real needs of a plant, and to be able to share the information on Twitter, for example, with friends entrusted with the upkeep of our plants whilst we are away on holidays. The idea would be to connect a moisture sensor to a Twitter account.

Connected keyfinder
We often spend time looking for car keys or house keys not knowing where we last left them. At times it can be a real problem, generating stress. Often we replace them when they may have just simply fallen under an armchair or been left in an unlikely place without us remembering doing so. It would be beneficial to create a SIGFOX key ring capable of either producing a beeping sound or publishing its last GPS position (in case the object finds itself buried in a place where the GPS signal doesn’t reach). By teaming up a GPS and a SIGFOX modem the project could be achieved for a reasonable price. It would also be possible to team up an accelerometer to save battery power on the GPS. The idea described here for keys could also be applied to other objects, such as children’s teddy bears and pets.

Has the postman been yet?

There are times when we are eagerly awaiting a letter. Or we are on holiday and would like to be able to ask our neighbour to pick up the mail for us, without having to bother them unnecessarily. Or perhaps our mailbox is a way away from the house (or we live on the 5th no escalator-floor). It would be great to know exactly when mail is sitting in our mailbox. A small sensor placed at the bottom or a detector on the opening of the flap would be useful in providing such information. Using a magnet and a SIGFOX chip it would appear quite easy to achieve.

Let's imagine that tomorrow's envelopes contain RFID tags. An RFID reader could be placed in our mailbox and send remote information about each letter we receive.

Have my grandparents taken their medicine?

Elderly people often forget to take their medicine for a few days at a time. The situation can quickly become critical. It would be beneficial to put a SIGFOX transmitter on a pillbox to ensure that it is used on a regular basis.

idea 5

Locate an animal

The idea is to put a SIGFOX transmitter into a necklace to geotag a pet or a wild animal.

idea 6

Identify burned out lights

The idea is to equip the public streetlights with SIGFOX sensors to be automatically notified when a lamp is burned out: this would avoid verification tours.

idea 7

A SIGFOX module that is also a ZigBee node

The idea is to create a SIGFOX module that is also a zigbee node.
Thus a Zigbee PAN network can automatically send messages on the SIGFOX network.

idea 8

Geotag vehicles

The vehicle tracking solutions have either a very expensive onboard terminal, either a very dissuasive subscription ...
The idea is to transmit the GPS positions of the vehicle via the SIGFOX network.

Monitoring household appliances

We could integrate UNB modems into sensors in household appliances (washing machines, dishwashers, boilers, etc..) The sensors record the events and, in case of anomaly, contact the manufacturer's customer service. The customer service call back the customer to signify dysfunction and plan intervention. This would also fill in the knowledge base of manufacturers and early detect quality problems.

idea 10

Fire fighting network

Equipping fire detectors with SIGFOX modems would establish a fire monitoring network, to quickly locate fire and reduce costs of such a disaster. Can both be used for housing but also for monitoring of forests.

idea 11

Detecting landslides before they cause accidents

The idea is to  integrate UNB modems into seismic sensors. Falling rocks and landslides are brutal and unpredictable phenomena and represent a permanent danger. These sensors would be autonomous, with a low power consumption for a long battery life as they would be activated only when a landslide occurs. Adding a GPS would be a plus.

Monitoring of power outages at home

Notification of power outages, with duration information in order to act if necessary, for the critical elements: freezer, breathing machine for patients, ...

idea 13

Monitoring of vending machines

Sensors could detect, once a day, the state of the stocks in the machine and send the information to the supplier. This supplier can then optimize his devliveries and stocks.

idea 14

Geolocalized baby bracelet

The idea would be to put a geolocalized bracelet on the babies when they are born and still in the hospital in order to locate them in case of kidnapping.

idea 15

City bike schemes

Integrate SIGFOX communication with geo-location and usage-time tracking for city bike schemes. If linked to a user account, this can also provide travel, fitness and expense information to specific account holder. It can also provide users with bike availability information.

Backup channel for home alarm systems

Some home alarm systems include a cellular modem (2G/3G) to warn the owner of an event. It is easy to get a jammer that can prevent communication from taking place.

The SIGFOX modem will take over to send two important information: 1. An intrusion has occuried. 2. cellular modem has been jammed.

NB: SIGFOX could even be used a main communication channel instead of the 2G/3G modem.

Dating website thanks to IoT

The idea here is to create a website, that, thanks to the data collected from your connected objects, would propose you targeted meetings just like it exists with music for example.

The selection is all the more relevant that the data collected by the objects translate a real way of life, habits, interests ... unlike most dating sites based on simple questions.

This original idea is part of an advanced vision of the Internet of Things, when everyone have their digital environment
connected to the Internet of Things.

Idea 18

Connected nappies

The connected nappy is equipped with a humidity sensor and a SIGFOX modem.

This nappy would send a message on the parents' mobile when they have to change the nappy of their child. This system could also be used in nurseries and maternity wards to improve the hygiene of children and facilitate the work of the nurses.

Idea 19

Lone Worker Alarm

This alarm system would be operational in areas not covered by GSM but covered by SIGFOX.

This alarm system would automatically send an alert to the employer and/or emergency services when an event occurs: fall, fainting ...
